One of the most costly allergic reactions. Around 10% of all bricklayers are sensitive to it. First reported around 1700 and well known since the construction of the Paris Metro in 1908. Although soluble chromium is known to be the cause since 1938, it has taken till the 80’s before the Scandinavian countries limited the amount of soluble Chromium in cement up to 2 ppm. Germany followed in 2000 for bagged cement and since January 2005, the European regulation 2003/53/EC is in place, limiting soluble chromium to 2 ppm.
